Student Organizations

The Ohio Northern ECCS department believes in the importance of being involved with student and professional organizations. The ECCS has two main professional organization affilliations. There has also been discussion about creating an IEEE Computer Society branch at ONU to further integrate the diverse interests of students into a professional organization. Stay tuned for further developments.
ACM — The Association for Computing Machinery
The ONU branch of the ACM is a nationally recognized branch that takes part in many fun activities outside the classroom. Every year there is a variety of events including industry guest speakers, tours of company facilities, and social events that bring students together. Involvement in the ACM is not mandatory, but it is encouraged due to the benefits that a professional organization can provide.
IEEE — Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Like the ACM , the ONU branch of the IEEE is a nationally recognized branch that takes part in many fun activities outside the classroom. Every year there is a variety of events including industry guest speakers, tours of company facilities, and social events that bring students together. Involvement in the IEEE is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended for computer and electrical engineering majors.
SWE — Society of Women Engineers
The Society of Women Engineers is a professional, non-profit, educational service organization of graduate engineers and men and women with equivalent engineering experience dedicated to making known the need for women in engineering and encouraging young women to consider an engineering education. On the college level, the student section provides a base for contact with working engineers in all types of engineering, and with expert advisors considering women as the minority in a world that is no longer run by men alone. This student section provides not only educational support, but also hosts social activities.
Τ Β Π — Tau Beta Pi
The members of this engineering honorary hold tutoring sessions for freshman and sophomore engineering students each week as well as perform several service projects such as giving Christmas gifts to children in hospitals and assisting at science fairs and quiz bowls.
Υ Π Ε — Upsilon Pi Epsilon
The purposes of Upsilon Pi Epsilon shall be to recognize outstanding talent in the field of computer science; promote high scholarship; to establish high standards; to represent Computer Science in interdisciplinary matters; and to encourage individual contributions to society through computing sciences.

Our various professional organizations allow both students and faculty to engage in
career-long learning while also having fun.
